Some standard recommendations you should take to lower systolic blood pressure readings:
1. Consume a diet rich in produce, grains, low-fat dairy, reduced saturated and total fat.
2. Be active. Engage in regular aerobic physical activity such as brisk walking at least 30 minutes per day most days.
3. Lose excess weight. Aim for a body mass index under 25.
4. Drink alcohol in moderation, if at all. Limit consumption to no more than one drink per day for most women and no more than two drinks per day for most men.
5. Cut back on salt. Consume no more than 2300 mg of sodium per day (one teaspoon).
